Paintball Hawaii (K-Bay) Review

First off, I am very glad that there is a paintball forum in Hawaii that is commercial free. I hope the owners of paintball stores and fields come here to read this stuff; everyone would benefit.

I bought a gun off a forum in Hawaii and the seller told me about the “bad blood” that is on Oahu in regards to paintball.
One of the guys I know on this forum only shops at Brother’s Paintball Supply.
There is strong polarity between Hawaii All Star and Paintball Hawaii.

This is an island thing, huh?
In California, there are paintball fields within minutes of each other and there is no such thing as “bad blood” there.

First, don’t go to a particular shop or to a particular field because someone told you to. And if they do, always ask them why. If it’s a stupid answer like, “Because the guys at xxx are faggots.” Then don’t listen to them.
Shop with your wallet and judge fields with your comfort.

I shop at all the paintball stores on this island. What I like about the stores here is that they give you prices over the phone. Call them up, ask for prices, and then buy this here and that there depending on what’s in stock and who sells cheaper. Don’t become a part of this “bad blood,” it’s stupid.
Second, choose a field to play on that makes you comfortable. No field is 100% better than another. Each has its own perks.

On to the review:
Paintball Hawaii has both airsoft and paintball maps. This review will only concern the paintball maps.

There are three main fields: an airball field and two lego fields.
There is also a larger airball field, but it is only played by a team that plays there on Sundays. If you come on a Saturday, it is just an empty field.

The Annoying:
1) I have played there twice and the most annoying thing there is the wind. It causes everyone’s paint to go crazy. I watched one of my balls do a giant spiral across the field because of the paint. The place needs to be tree lined very badly. (grow trees around the perimeter of the entire field to keep the wind from interfering with the games).

2) There is a netted gate that only a ref is allowed to open or close. Two rounds are played per game (switch sides after each round), but if you get gogged, that means you have to wait until the end of the second round before you can leave the map and clean your goggles. That is lame. That also prevents you from playing small games with your friends like 2 on 2 or 1on1. LAME. (I know, carry a microfiber cloth so you can wipe yourself down, but it can’t beat being sprayed down.)

3) When you get tagged out, they make you go wait in the “dead box,” which is also where you stand when you start the game. When you get tagged out early in the game and have to go to the dead box, you get shot a lot. Dead players should wait for the game to end on the side of the map where they can watch the game. What else is there to do but enjoy watching the game after you’re tagged out? The dead box is lame. I have tons of extra welts because of it.

The Goods:
1) Very strict barrel condom and mask rule. I like that. It makes it safe.
2) They sell annual air for $50. If you play a lot, this saves you money. And it’s smart because it ensures that players will be loyal to the field.
3) Field allows you to bring your own paint, which is great for me because I prefer Evil, but they’d make more money if they sold a wider selection of paint at the field.
4) The refs are very nice. They are big giant Hawaiians that look very intimidating, yet they are very friendly and give you tips to improve your game. Good job, guys.
5) Grass. The maps are all covered in grass. Great for sliding and you’re not too dirty at the end of the day. Bravo to that. I love it!

I keep coming back because of the annual air, but the wind factor is killing me. I still need to go play at every field on this island.

Thanks for the review, and I agree about the bad blood. It's sad, but Hawaii being a small place tends to sometimes intensify conflicts. Couple that with how far back a lot of these local industry figures go back, and that's how this stuff happens. Wish it didnt.

I personally have had fun at all the fields I've played at, and try not to let the conflicts bother me.
